The latest in our series of accommodation spotlight blogs features our self-catering Walled Cottage, sitting in the grounds of the Lodge.
Lying beneath Beinn Uidhe and surrounded by wildlife, countryside and stunning views, our charming three-bedroom cottage acts as the perfect family base for your holiday in the highlands.
The walled cottage sits within the former walled garden of the lodge, giving seclusion and privacy to guests. Accessed via two entrances in the garden, there is private parking alongside the cottage.
The cottage can be booked in tandem with larger groups in the lodge if required, or, if booked as the whole cottage, we welcome five sleepers in our three bedrooms – two twins (one can be made up as a super-king for couples or families) and a single. Like the dormitories in the lodge, it can also be booked on a bed-by-bed basis as a mini hostel during the winter months when the lodge is closed.
As you step inside the property and remove coats and boots from a day out exploring, you can move around the tastefully decorated rooms with everything you’ll need for your holiday here in the highlands. From a fully equipped kitchen with electric cooker, to the good-sized lounge with cosy log fire, through to each of the three comfortable bedrooms and modern shower room.
Each room has a view of the nearby countryside, whether it’s a mountain view or over to Loch Assynt. The perfect place to relax.
Explore the local area
What’s a holiday in the highlands without going off to see what’s nearby and explore? We’re so lucky up here to be surrounded by epic landscape and fantastic activities – perfect for families, couples and solo travellers alike.
Loch Assynt & Ardvreck Castle
Walk down the drive alongside the river Traligill down towards the loch and enjoy stunning walks around the loch-side. Perhaps you might hear the wailing of the mermaid of Loch Assynt? Or wander around the ruins of Ardvreck Castle and wonder at the history of such a spectacular place.
Assynt mountains
The area of Assynt is pretty special. Did you know that some of the oldest rocks on earth can be found here? Home to mountains that were created, or changed, during the last ice age, and towering above nearby coastal village Lochinver is Suilven, one of the most distinctive mountains in Assynt.
Breath-taking beaches
Comparisons have been made between Assynt beaches and the Caribbean – and it’s easy to see why, with their soft white sand and turquoise waters. Whether it’s the beautiful and popular Achmelvich beach or Sandwood Bay, one of the remotest in Scotland, there is plenty of choice and you’ll be guaranteed a reward no matter the weather. Even on a fresh, winters day, there’s nothing better than taking a stroll along the sand, perhaps dipping your toes in the water – it’s not as cold as you’d imagine!
Water sports
If you fancy doing more than just a paddle in the water, how about canoeing, taking a sea tour or paddleboarding?
Activities on land
What about hiring bikes to explore the area? Inchnadamph is brilliant for climbing, scrambling and hiking – with plenty of mountains to choose from! There are activities for everyone up here, no matter your interest.
Geology
In addition, Inchnadamph Lodge sits within the centre of a unique, historical landscape, with a great diversity of geological formations to explore locally. Famous geologists Peach and Horne grouped at the lodge in 1912 – there is a monument nearby commemorating the pair, reading “To Ben N Peach and John Horne who played the foremost part in unravelling the geological structures of the north west Highlands 1883-1897. An International tribute erected 1930.”
No matter your interest, you’re guaranteed to have the holiday of a lifetime here at Inchnadamph Lodge, tucked away deep in the Scottish Highlands.
